I have learned so much from this experience. On a personal level, I enjoyed working on The Library Thing, Youtube and Bloglines with the RSS feeds the most, but everything that I've learned will make me a better librarian.
Many of the tasks were difficult to complete, but not impossible. I am proud of the knowledge that I've gained and the 10 training hours that I've earned...........even though it probably took me 50!

Assignment #22
HCPL's digital site is attractive and easy to use. I attended training when we first added it to our collection. I'd like to see children's music added. Wowio is appealing, also. Browsing can be accomplished by subject, age and publisher. Not too sure about LibriVox, only books in the public domain are included, and sometimes just chapters, so the collection is not as vast.
I prefer to read my books, not listen to them. I do not use an ipod either, so my personal use of these sources is limited. I am glad to be aware of these resources so that I can pass on the information to our customers.

Assignment #21
I added the podcast "The Art of Storytelling with Children" to my Bloglines playlist. I found this podcast using Yahoo. I never noticed the audio search option. Went to Goggle to see if I could do the same there, and couldn't. I searched using "storytelling" and had many choices, more than when I searched on podcast.net.

Assignment #20
I enjoy watching YouTube. Here is a clip from "The Office", which is my very favorite tv show. I hope the writers strike ends soon. I could easily spend hours watching and never get bored!

Time to try..Zoho Assignment #19
Time to try Zoho!!
It was very easy to publish a post to my blog with Zoho Writer. I like being able to organize my work with tags and that my documents can be saved online. Zoho is a tool that I can see myself using again.

Assignment #18
I'm not interested in social networking. I thought that the dogster site was cute, but I'm not going to take time at work to create an account for my dog. I've got too many other things to do!

Assignment #17
Aren't you just sick of everyone talking constantly on their cell phone? I wish my daughter would talk on hers more! She communicates with her friends by text messaging, instant messaging and by way of her My Space. I'd like to hear her actually TALK to someone for a change!!
Assignment #16
Before this weeks assignment I thought "www" meant the "world wide web". Now it means that I am "wise to the world of the wikki". It was very easy to add to the iHcpl sandbox. I enjoyed reading the other entries.
To save on time and travel expense, a wikki could be used to develop the annual SRP Puppet Variety Show.

Assignment #15
Library 2.0 and Me
My how things have changed. When I started my library career the card catalog ruled! It's time for change, again. I need to find ways to "extend the real library online." One way I could do this is by creating blogs for parents with recommended book lists and parenting tips. Maybe even a podcast of a storytime or an online book discussion group by blogging.
All of this new technology and blogging is great, but nothing beats coming into the library and hearing a story read to you, taking home a book and being with the wonderful people who work at the library!

Assignment #14
I explored the world of Technorati by searching Learning 2.0. The first blog that I read under the advanced search mentioned HCPL!

Assignment #13
The tagging video was very cute. It reminded me of how I would label things around the house when my daughter was little to familiarize her with the printed word. I liked del. icio.us because of the ease of the tags. I can definitely see this being used as a research tool.
I will probably set up an account for my personal use later.
I am enjoying these exercises, but it is getting harder and harder to complete them during my very busy work day.

Assignment #12, Part 2
Finally was able to check out the Library Elf. I would prefer to keep receiving my notices through HCPL.

Assignment #12
I have been unable to find the Library Elf. I started at 12:20pm at the library. I tried again when I came home at 2:00pm. I just read Grace's email and will give up for today, but promise to try again Monday.
Assignment #11
Love the Library Thing! I am always tearing out the reviews of books that I want to read from newspapers and magazines. Now I have a central place to put my "Reading Wish List". I can also use this for a gift list, too. This was my favorite of all the exercises so far!!

Assignment #10
This assignment was fun. I enjoyed "playing around" with many of the generators, but had trouble posting the images to my blog.
I'm continuing to learn new things and actually look forward to a new challenge each week.

Assignment #9 is finished. I used Bloglines and also went to websites that I use frequently. I even added some of my favorite guilty pleasures The New York Post and Entertainment Weekly to my list. Right now I can see myself using my Blogline more for my personal use than for work, but that could change.
One of my coworders suggested using "Del.icio.us". Tags are used to organzie your sites and you can access them from any computer. I might just give it a try.

RSS/Bloglines
I now have a Blogline account, quite an accomplishment for someone who never even heard of an RSS. I never even noticed the little icon at the bottom of some websites. This iHcpl experience is fantastic. I've certainly learned a lot already.
